Welcome to Run Because!

Hello!  Welcome to my new blog, Run Because.  For many of my followers, you know that I have recently gotten sucked into the world of running.  Some people think I’m crazy.  Heck, I think I’m crazy some days, but I’ve just been so inspired by friends and family that I had to do something with it!  Starting out slow, I’ve developed a thirst to do more and more with my running, setting some pretty lofty goals.  You may know me from my other blog, Campus to Career, which is a job search blog offering up all kinds of advice relating to leadership, social media and the world of work.  I thought I’d start a separate blog to chronicle a different journey.  Because of your support, I’m happy to announce that some of those goals have already been achieved like these:

  • Run a 5K in less than 00:30:00 – Completed May 7, 2011 with a finishing time of 00:28:33
  • Run a collective 310 miles by my 31st birthday (June 27, 2011) – Started February 2, 2011 and completed June 18, 2011
I’ve decided to keep going.  Why stop here?  My friends and family continue to encourage me to keep shooting for the stars.  So, I am.  Here are the next set of goals:
  • Run a collective 400 miles by December 31, 2011 – started June 19, 2011
  • Run a 10K in less than 01:00:00 (Fall 2011)
  • Train for half-marathon in Fall/Winter 2011
You may be asking yourself, why is this blog called Run Because?  I want to share my journey with you, blogging about training (hopefully getting some reassurance from you!), sharing pictures and video along the way.  I put some serious thought into it and here’s what I’ve decided:  There are many reasons why we run, pushing ourselves to the limit.  For some of us, it’s simply the feeling of satisfaction as we achieve our goals.  For others, running brings the variety of reasons below.
I Run Because:
  • I want to get into better shape
  • People tell me I can
  • People told me I couldn’t
  • I have something to prove
  • It brings me peace
  • It clears my mind
  • My family needs me to be healthy
Why do you run?  What drives you, keeps you going when you don’t think there’s hope?  Who or what inspires you?  I’d love to know.  Let’s make this blog beneficial for everyone!
